The PapyrusClubs Program is a pioneering initiative from Deccan Chronicle and NetLink Technologies to enable schools and colleges to create and publish their own online newspapers, implemented through a web-based portal (www.papyrusclubs.com). The portal has been designed to serve as a resource centre as well as a platform for showcasing the activities and achievements of students in each school/college.
The portal provides a dedicated zone for use by each member school/college. Schools/colleges log into the portal to create and publish their own online newspaper. The portal provides rich, easy-to-use functionality and contains templates and tools for newspaper creation & publishing.
Each PapyrusClub consists of student members and teacher-coordinators. The students take on the roles of reporters, photographers, editors, etc, and are be supported by the coordinators to bring out the online newspaper. The students undergo comprehensive training on all aspects of news creation, news reporting, investigative journalism, photography, news editing and usage of the features of the PapyrusClubs Portal.
The PapyrusClubs Program has a membership of over 1000 schools and colleges spread across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The total student strength in these institutions is in excess of 1.0 Million. PapyrusClubs activities are now being taken to institutions all over India.
