The PapyrusClubs Program

The PapyrusClubs Program is a pioneering initiative from Deccan Chronicle and NetLink Technologies. It facilitates schools and colleges to create and publish their own online newspapers, implemented through a web-based portal (www.papyrusclubs.com). The portal has been designed to serve as a resource centre and platform for showcasing the activities and achievements of students in each school/college.

Each registered school/college has been allotted a dedicated zone, where it can use the templates and tools provided for creating and publishing the e-newspaper. The portal is user friendly.

A PapyrusClub consists of student members and teacher-coordinators. The students undergo comprehensive training on news creation, news reporting, investigative journalism, photography, news editing and using the features of the PapyrusClubs portal. They assume the roles of reporters, photographers, editors, etc., and are supported by coordinators to bring out the e-paper.

The PapyrusClubs Program provides significant benefits to the students and the institution. It offers substantial opportunities for the growth of students in the areas of personality development, confidence building, teamwork, creative expression and language skills. Publishing an online newspaper enhances the image of the institution and provides an avenue to communicate with the students and teachers, along with the extended community of parents, relatives, friends and alumni.

The portal also contains sophisticated features such as collaborative reporting, blogs and discussion forums, RSS feeds, webinars, webcasts and podcasts, opinion polls and surveys, archiving, and a smart search facility.

PapyrusClubs Membership

At present, PapyrusClubs caters to over 1300 schools & 290 colleges in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi and Haryana . The total student strength is approximately 20 lakhs. PapyrusClubs aims at focusing its activities in all Indian educational institutions.

Schools and colleges can enroll into the PapyrusClubs Program by completing the PapyrusClubs Application Form and providing supporting documentation. The institutions are not required to pay any membership fee for their first year of enrolment.

The PapyrusClubs Newsletter Program

The PapyrusClubs Newsletter Program brings out a printed newsletter containing articles taken from each school’s online newspaper and special content of interest to the student community.

The PapyrusClubs Newsletter is a monthly publication, which is distributed to students and teachers of member institutions. The newsletter is taken home by each student and therefore gets read by parents, friends and relatives.
