E-Learning Modules should provide the following key features:

Interactivity
Navigation
Simulation
Testing Understanding

Interactivity
The users of the E-Learning Module are placed in “control”. They would be allowed to continuously interact with the program through:
Making selections from “screen options”
Responding to “screen prompts”
Answering questions

Interactivity ensures continuous user participation in the learning process and makes the process interesting and active.

Navigation
Navigation features allow a user to move within the contents of a E-Learning Module in different ways.
Different users would require different amounts of time to assimilate the information on screen or to move to specific interest areas.
Navigation buttons would allow them to “move forward” at their own pace. A user may need to “go back” to review some information, move to different screens to pick up threads of information etc. Navigation ensures that a user has the power to proceed, review/revise etc at his own pace and convenience.

Simulation
Simulation features would reproduce actual user experiences, processes, etc which users would encounter in their real-life environment. Depending upon the subject matter that is covered, actual experiences and processes can be reproduced using videos and the user would be made to interact with them on the screen.

Testing Understanding

Self-administered quizzes on the screen should form part of a well-designed
E-Learning Modules. These quizzes can be made interactive and can use:

Multiple-choice questions
Keystroke responses
“Drag and drop” methods

The quizzes can also be “individualised” and can be based on past performance, providing “levels of difficulty”. The scores of any participant in a quiz can be taken to a database and can be reviewed at will.
